About
Trip description
Students on this DMU Global experience led by DMuworks Enterprise staff can learn about enterprise and academia through a variety of engaging learning activities. The purpose of the trip is to increase your enterprise education knowledge and inspire you to start your own business when you return back to the UK with the support of the DMU Enterprise workshops.
Students will have opportunities to network at the Lisbon School of Business and Economics and the smart city innovation lab. Students can actively learn about how to start-up, whilst gaining actionable knowledge, with opportunities to network with Portuguese entrepreneurs. You will broaden your perspectives of enterprise education whilst learning the skills to start a business. Some of the other planned visits include: Lisbon Innovation Centre; Coworking Lisbon; Rocket Hub and Lisbon Incubator.
Lisbon is a developed capital city with a thriving innovation and enterprise scene. It is an affordable city to visit with great transport links which provide value and ease of mobility. Lisbon also has numerous entrepreneurship hubs which students can engage with as part of this experience.
Learning objectives
Participating in a DMU Global opportunity can help you develop a range of employability skills and competencies that enhance your studies. Through participation in this Enterprise trip to Lisbon we expect that students will develop the following:
Improved entrepreneurial skills by meeting and learning from Portuguese start-up entrepreneurs
Increased confidence to travel and explore the opportunities of expanding their respective start-ups into countries beyond the UK
Before the trip to Lisbon, the DMUworks Enterprise & Entrepreneurship team will host a set of 2 ‘pre-trip’ enterprise start up sessions specifically for the participants, in which they will learn about how to develop their business idea in respect of gaining customers. They will also be taught about researching start-ups before we visit them and cover how to network in Portugal considering local norms and customs.
After the experience, the DMUworks Enterprise & Entrepreneurship team will get the students to present what they learnt to the group and to other students who did not go on this opportunity, so knowledge exchange is still occurring. The students will then be encouraged to book onto a 1-1 follow up call (via MyGateway) in 2 months time so that we can support the progress of our students in helping them to achieve their key learning outcomes.
Cultural activities
The cultural activities as part of this mobility experience to Lisbon may include potential visits to the Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT), the National Azulejo Museum, Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and the Berardo Collection Museum.
Each evening their will be a cultural activity which students can participate in which will include learning about traditional dances, food and Portuguese traditions. Students will be encouraged to participate in these activities and make the most of the chance to network in this oversees environment whilst having fun.
Students participating on this opportunity will also have free time to explore different parts of Lisbon including the waterfront, parks and the famous Castelo de São Jorge. Food and drinks recommendations will also be shared in the trip briefing so that students can get a taste of Iberian cuisine.
Please note that all cultural visits and activities are subject to COVID-19 regulations in Portugal.
