The event saw students, graduates, staff and members of the local business community come together, to hear from guest speakers at the event, which took place on the 4th floor Fletcher Suite in the Vijay Patel building. It marked the first physical Connect event in more than two years, and was also streamed live on DMU’s Linkedin page.

Speakers included Enterprise Placement Year student Thomas Wylam, who talked about his innovative product design, a piece of wearable tech which is used on the hand.

Also speaking were Simon Jenner, Director of BID Leicester who introduced the audience to DMU’s huge new entrepreneurship programme, Leicester Future EntrepreneursSimon spoke about his enthusiam for the programme, which is completely free of charge and open to all.   Martin Hageman, a representative of The Sir Thomas White Loan Charity who are partners for the Connect event series, spoke about the charity which offers people with a business idea funding to help them get their idea off the ground.

Simon Baines, from DMU’s student and graduate enterprise team said “This event could not have gone better, the audience were visibly excited to be together physically in one room, and it was great that we had so many watching live online as well.  All of our speakers were fantastic.  The networking session which followed the guest speakers was absolutely buzzing, and it was just brilliant to see so many people interested in entrepreneurship connect on campus in this way”.

At the event, Simon introduced this year’s Pitch2Win competition and DMU Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Awards, both of which are currently accepting applications via dmumade.com
